梅里雪山 MeiLi Snow Mountains is a mountain range in Yunnan province that rises to over 6000 meters above sea level. It is located in the very northwest of Yunnan province, in Deqin county, just at the border with Tibet, between the Salween river to the west and the Mekong to the east. Famous Snow Mountain range in China, with distinct high altitude landscapes and glaciers, MeiLi gets often compared to the Himalayas. Indeed MeiLi is part of the bigger Hengduan mountain group, covering a north-south length of 200km, and an east-west width of 30km.
The highest peak in the range is Kawagarbo 卡瓦格博, the “Prince of the mountains”, which rises to 6740 meters. The name of his “princess” is Miancimu, rising elegantly up to 6054m, said to be one of the most beautiful peaks in the world.
MeiLi North Slope is a beautiful trek over 5 days and 4 nights, around 40km total distance. It explores the northern side of the mountain range, which is the closest to Tibet, around 4 peaks between 6000-6500m. The route is open to travelers since 2019. All camp spots offer fantastic views, to enjoy at night or in the morning during our camp meals. There is no technical mountain climbing involved in this trek, the overall difficulty is considered ‘moderate’, although there are some steep climbs to take. MeiLi North Slope is a very enjoyable hike, day after day, for us all to be stunned by the amazing scenery and the snow capped mountains.
